LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Whether you're casting a line, spotting wildlife, or exploring Alaska's unique history, there's no shortage of adventures within easy driving distance of the Lazy Moose RV Park.

Just minutes away, the Salcha River State Recreation Site offers a convenient boat launch and excellent fishing opportunities, with waters teeming with king salmon, Arctic grayling and northern pike.

Not much further down the road is Harding Lake, which boasts great fishing for a wide variety of native and stocked fish, including Arctic char, burbot, Arctic grayling, and northern pike, as well as several salmon and trout species.

Located just a very short drive away is Birch Lake. This lake contains Arctic char, Arctic grayling, Chinook salmon, coho salmon, and rainbow trout and has been stocked extensively since 1966. It is a popular spot for both fishing from boats and ice fishing in the winter.

Nature enthusiasts won't want to miss Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, located in Fairbanks. Bring your binoculars to observe an incredible variety of birds, including Canada geese, pintails, and other migratory species, while keeping an eye out for local wildlife such as moose, red foxes, Arctic shrews and ermine.

History comes alive in Fairbanks at Pioneer Park, a family-friendly destination celebrating Alaska's rich heritage. Explore museums highlighting pioneer life, the railroad, and Alaska Native culture, ride an authentic narrow-gauge steam train through a recreated Gold Rush town, and enjoy classic fairground attractions.

Just 30 minutes away in the town of North Pole, you'll find the world-famous Santa Claus House. Originally created as a clever marketing idea in 1949, this iconic attraction has become a year-round destination where visitors can meet Santa, send postcards with a North Pole postmark, and experience a little holiday magic any time of year.

For a glimpse into one of Alaska's greatest engineering achievements, visit the Alyeska Pipeline Viewing Point. Here you can see a section of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline up close and learn how this remarkable project was built to withstand Alaska's extreme conditions.

For an in-depth look at everything Alaska, be sure to visit the University of Alaska Museum Of The North.  The museum's research collections - 2.5 million artifacts and specimens - represent millions of years of biological diversity and thousands of years of cultural traditions in the North.  The original "Into the Wild" bus is permanently located at the museum.
